We at Zion Lutheran Church, Wenona, Illinois, would like to offer you a warm word of welcome in the Name of our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I certainly hope that as you explore our website, you are able to see how richly God has blessed us, and continues to do so. The activities that take place at Zion, Wenona, are done only because God has given us His gifts to do those ministries as acts of service to Him.
Our ladies group meets eight times per year. Sunday School and Bible classes are held each week between September and May. Our choir meets during the same months, and is a joint activity with St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Varna, Illinois, with whom Zion has been in a dual parish agreement since 1960.
But most importantly, we gather together each week to hear God's Word and receive His gifts. These meetings are called "Divine Services." They are so called not because we come to serve God, but because in them He comes to serve us, to forgive our sins, and to feed and nourish us with Himself. As the President of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Pastor Matthew Harrison, so eloquently put it, we come to church with empty sacks, and the Lord fills them.
We invite you to come and join us -- not to give, but to receive; not because you can help us, but because God helps all of us. -- Pastor Peter M. Glock
